What does PSAN stand for?
PSAN, or Prestataire de Services sur Actifs Numériques, is a regulatory term specifically used in the French and European context to designate entities that offer services related to digital assets or cryptocurrencies.
This designation encompasses a variety of services, from the custody of digital assets on behalf of third parties to the purchase, sale and exchangeExchange platform for crypto assets (Binance, Kraken…) of these assets, whether in legal tender or between different cryptocurrencies.
In France, the registration and regulation of PSANs is overseen by the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) and the Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de résolution (ACPR). The aim of this supervision is to ensure that service providers comply with anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing standards.
Banque Delubac & Cie is the first French bank to obtain PSAN registration in 2022.
Cryptocurrencies or digital currencies are terms commonly used in the crypto ecosystem. However, the terminology favored by regulators (ACPR and AMF) is crypto-assets or digital assets.
